SSSDC Week 4 Update and Details for Week 5

Good Morning everyone!

Well, it's another check in day for the Summer Sizzle Slim Down Challenge and I for one, had a bit of an up and down week as far as meeting my goals. I thought this week was going to be a breeze in terms of getting in my water, posting lots of healthy recipes and losing weight....boy, was I wrong.

I'll start by saying, I began the week with a bang. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday went by without a glitch - got in the exercise, got in the water and was peeing like it was my job. I felt like the weight was just going to melt off of me. With each flush of the toilet, I kept thinking, goodbye you miserable fat...off to the sewer you go! I'm a "weigh everyday" type of gal, so in the earlier part of the week, the outlook was good. I was down a pound by Tuesday and thought there was no stopping me. Let me just say that overconfidence can really put you in your place if you don't watch it.

Fats forward to Thursday (that's not a typo)...I met up with a friend who was visiting from out of town. We had a lovely girls' day so she could have a day without her kids, have adult conversation AND adult drinks and let's just say, we imbibed, we ate, we laughed - we ENJOYED the day.... a lot.

I'd love to say, no harm, no foul - BUT I'm no fool. I do realize that indulgent days such as these don't come without a price tag...and that price is high. It's called weight gain and it's ugly. I'd rather just pay 20 bucks and call it a day but my body demands payment on the scale. In POUNDS. This week, for my frivolity, I paid .8 lbs to be precise.

Granted,  it's less than a pound so I'm having a cow or anything, but frankly, I'm lucky. I made a few good decisions along with the bad ones and maybe they balanced out a little but the fact remains that I didn't see a loss and am at 224.8 this week. It makes me mad, but not to the point where I feel I need to beat myself up. I'm still seeing progress in my willingness to exercise and get in more water. Did I hit those goals everyday? No - I didn't. But I tried very hard on most days to get there....this is progress. In the days of yore, I would have thrown in the towel and had that self-defeatist attitude, thinking I could NEVER lose weight and I was just predestined to be a total fat-so my entire life. No more. I do know that I may not have made ALL wise choices this week, but that does not dictate the choices I make this week. I am moving forward, and leaving any and all "oopses" from the past in the past.

SO - are you all ready for this week's challenge???
Week 5 - (begin July 1) - LOSE 2 lbs THIS WEEK (and post pics/measurements if doing so)
Yep, holiday and all - this is the goal.
Don't question it - just do it. The reason this is the goal this week is to help us remember that the 4th of July doesn't give us free license to abandon all our diet and fitness goals. Yes, it's a holiday - but it's not a holiday meant to celebrate how many hot dogs and hamburgers our bodies can consume. This week will hopefully redirect us a bit - knowing the goal is a 2 pound loss, maybe we can steer clear of old habits of overindulgence during the holiday and make good on our promise to ourselves for better health ALL 365 days of the year!

Adding to this week's challenge, however, is the fact that Josh and I are at the beach all week and this place is historically a weight gain mecca, but I am determined to let it not be so this year! I'm happy to report that last night's NSV was refusing the delicious looking blueberry pie my MIL offered me. It was hard, but I had already marked my day complete on Calorie Count so the choice was made for me. I'm not into the self-sabotage business anymore.

I will have to post measurements and pics later tonight or tomorrow because I have to go buy a measuring tape - I forgot to bring mine with me on vacation. I had visions of sun and sand on my mind, not the current condition and circumference of my thighs, I guess!

But for now I leave you with at least my weigh stats for the challenge and my goals for this week:

Starting Weight: 232
Last week's weight: 224
This week's weight: 224.8
Gain: + .8 lbs (Boo hiss!)

This week's GOALS:
Lose 2 lbs
Only have dessert twice this week
Exercise for an hour each day (beyond swimming in the ocean - either bike, walk or fitness center)
Stick to tracking
GET In that water - I'll be happy with 64 oz minimum
Have fun and remember that this is not a diet - it's for life.

Can't wait to hear about everyone else's progress. Hope you had a great week!

  1. I am the same way. One bad day and it's over. I have a lunch thing today and already calorie counted on the website. And a BBQ tonight-my veggie burger is ready to roll.

Can you pack some food? I have loads of ideas if you need any.

Did you see I changed my blog therefore taking me out of the challenge? Sorry. =( But I do plan to keep losing with you!!

Don't worry about the small gain, your ladies night out sounds wonderful. I had one of those on Wed. night and I'm paying for it too....

    Have a good week!

  3. We have all done what you did last week with your friend. Good company and laughter is of course very important. What is your plan for the next such gathering, though?? There will be others. How can you have fun with friends and continue to move forward without a set back?

  4. Oh and I forgot to add tracking. I want to track for a full 7 days and keep going but will do one week at a time first.
I am going to stop by everyones as I get a chance. Thank you Rochelle for another week to try and get back and do my best.
Have a great and blessed evening.

  6. It's amazing how quickly one indiscretion catches up to you, and how long it takes to eliminate all traces of it ... being alert and conscious about your decisions and recognizing how/when to make modifications is an important learning step.
    Wishing you a terrific week 5 :)
