Cup Half Full vs. Cup Half Empty - Challenge Update Week 4

If I'm the type of person that looks at the cup as being half full, then this has been an amazing week for weight loss for me. I shed 3.25 pounds, which is the most I have dropped in a week in what feels like forfreakingever. However...if I'm a cup half empty type of gal (and I think I might be today), this really isn't all that impressive considering the 3.25 pound loss leaves me at 229 pounds which IS THE SAME WEIGHT I WAS AT ON JULY 29  (and various days in September as well)!!!!! So basically I have been up and down the scale flirting with this number for MONTHS.

Hey, I'm happy the anniversary weekend weight is bidding me adieu - make no mistake. I just know that the loss this week is simply one more time I am losing weight I already lost over the past few months. It's so very, very annoying to say the least.

The one thing that IS good about it, is that the loss has mentally given me another boost of hope that this whole thing is not for naught. It proves that I do know what to do - and what not to do. I'm not saying I met my goals in every way - but I made an effort and it paid off. Having the realization this week as to what works has provided me with a bit of a conundrum however, and I don't know how I can continue doing it because it basically involves my husband being away on a business trip, until I reach my goal weight....it appears I eat far less when he isn't home than I do when he is here.
Does anyone else have this issue?

For some reason I was perfectly content having an apple and a piece of cheese for dinner when he was away, but when he is home, suddenly I need to eat half a chicken and a pile of roasted potatoes????? What gives?

I actually hate when my husband travels so this "diet" simply won't do. Looks like Plan B is in order - which is actually stick with meeting my goals. How genius! Thankfully this is, once again, a new week and a new chance to get it right.

This week I definitely need to be extremely mindful of portions (the biggest issue I have when eating with my husband) and get my water in. That is something I have been really bad about and I know it makes all the difference in the world. Exercise wise, I am not being too much of a slug, but again, there is room for vast improvement. I need to stop letting my damn school work consume my days. Somehow I must master the work smarter, not harder method of doing my school work.

I've also decided that going forward, I am not going to blog or comment on others blogs unless I have worked out. That alone may be the ticket since I do enjoy getting on here and sharing what is going on in my world and hearing about what is going on in yours.
So here's to another week....let's see if I can kiss this 229 goodbye for good.

  1. My husband has been an added challenge as long as I have known him. Back when we met, I ate much more with him than alone. We were both thin then:) Now, he brings food into the house that I find tempting. Latest are some unhealthy cracker/chip things that I have so far avoided.

  2. When you eat with the husband, try putting smaller portions on your plate and take smaller bites and chew and chew and chew. Also put your fork down between bites.

And I'm betting that you're going to say a permanent good-bye to 229!

  5. I also find it hard when I'm eating with Chris. I like to cook for him (cuz let's face it, he'd starve without me). But when I cook for him it always seems to be "real" meals...Which usually ends up eating too much...Damn men...

  7. It's the single girl diet. It sucks. If I'm being bad I make Aaron eat a different meal then me. It sucks also but helps.

  8. I do think you are turning a corner now. I DO think you will kiss 229 good bye. You can do this!

My hubby, bless him, should have been my role model for years. He eats well and healthy, exercises and is as fit as a fiddle. Took me a long time to see the value in what he does. So, hopefully you will not wait as long as I did.

Oh, a tip: I set my iPhone timer for a certain amount of time when I am working on something like writing. I am on sabbatical right now and trying to get a bunch of research papers done. I decide which sections I will work on each day and then allot a certain amount of time (say 45 minutes) for each section. So in 3 hours, I will make huge dents in various sections of the papers. Really helps me focus and become efficient, plus when I set parameters like that (3-4 hours at a time) I can do other things that I need to or enjoy doing. Just a thought.

  10. It's hard to take it when the same number seems to be hanging around for weeks. But, at least you haven't abandoned ship. Just keep rowing and get it going in the right direction. :)

  12. Cooking for Biz is one of the hardest challenges I face. He EXPECTS to be fed and wants all of the bad things. (potatoes, sour cream, pasta...) Would love to get him on a diet as he has gotten quite large but he really has no desire to lose.

  13. I think you'll be waving "bye-bye" to 229 this week. YOu sound quite focused and determined. You were able to celebrate your anniversary and still lose weight. As far as your hubby..is he healthy and fit or could you help each other by eating similar foods? My husband likes a hearty meal, so I've started a low-carb diet to accommodate high-protein meals and he's loving it. He's not hungry. I'm not hungry and our grocery bill has been reduced significantly because I'm not buying a lot of carb foods like before. There are lots of low-carb programs out there and the food is quite good. Low-carbs, high-protein, no cravings, lower grocery bill and happy hubby and happy me. It's not a bad plan!

  14. Just wanted to let you know that the meat on my lunch sandwich is a minced beef patty that I just fried in some butter and sliced afterward. :)

  15. My husband does not bring any food home unless he knows I eat it but since I have a legs, a car, GPS and credit cards (not to mention a phone and take out/delivery menus), I needed to learn to work on me, not him.

I alternated between bingeing and skipping meals whenever he traveled. Now my food plan is my food plan rain, shine, absent, present, hot, cold, dreary day or holiday. But I do need to remember to keep my water level up when the temperatures go down.

  16. I make sure I have less than my hubby does. Even now, I watch my portions. You will get where you want to be - one pound at a time.
